“A man of great integrity who exemplifies the values of the Boy Scouts of America in every way” is how his friend Nick Boddie describes Bill Daughtridge; and Bill brings these values to all aspects of his life. Bill started in Scouting as a Cub Scout and later earned his Eagle Scout in Troop 11, Rocky Mount, North Carolina. His adult Scouting involvement was as a member of the Eagle Scout Review Board, and later he served the East Carolina Council as a district chairman and council president.
In 2001 he joined the Southern Region Executive Board and continues to serve today. He was an assistant Scoutmaster to the 2001 National Jamboree and has been the area vice president of Venturing and from 2004-2006 served as area president. In addition, Bill is a member of his area’s council charter review committee and is a past member of the Regional Eagle Scout Scholarship Selection Committee.
An active member of the First Presbyterian Church where he serves as a deacon, he is also a past chairman of the stewardship committee. His service was recognized when he was awarded the God and Service Award this year.
Bill’s community involvement is even more impressive. Bill is currently a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives. In addition, some of his other activities include serving on the North Carolina Economic Development Board, North Carolina Board of Travel and Tourism and on the board of trustees for the North Carolina Symphony Society.
One of Bill’s fondest memories is a five-day kayak trip through four ecosystems with his Eagle Scout son, Gray, who would later guide at the Pamlico Sea Base. In addition to his son Gray, Bill and wife, Partha, have a daughter Meredith.
