Diane Macke Cannon

Diane Cannon exemplifies the true spirit of Scouting and its family values. Diane began her Scouting career as a den mother for her son, which she says was her most rewarding experience. This led her to get involved and stay in Scouting. Her early experiences spurred her to become involved with training and it has become her passion. She saw the need and importance of training in the Scouting program and has been inspired to help other adults provide a quality program for their youth.

Diane has held many positions in Scouting, beginning with her local pack committee to troop committee as her son grew up and continued his involvement with Scouting. She decided to venture out and become involved on the district level, especially with commissioner’s service where she held numerous positions. She was challenged to become involved at the council level where she chaired her first Pow-Wow training course. Diane continued her passion for training and moved on to the regional level where she worked on six Cub Scout training Wood Badge courses.

She currently serves on the national Cub Scout program committee as its chair, where she oversees the Cub Scout Themes Task Force, Program Helps Task Force, Literature Review Task Force, and is responsible for many important materials and resources including the Webelos, Tiger, and Cub Scout handbooks. The committee also assists in the development of the Cub Scout web site and reviews all Cub Scout literature.

Diane’s extensive involvement in her local district, council and unit has resulted in recognition on two occasions with the District Award of Merit. She has also received her Scouter’s Training Key, Commissioner’s Key, Distinguished Commissioner Award, and is a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow. Sam Houston Area Council awarded Diane the Silver Beaver in 1995. In addition to the Silver Antelope, she is being honored this year with the Silver Buffalo.

Diane has two grown sons, Brian and Brad, who are both Eagle Scouts. She currently resides in The Woodlands, Texas.
